It is thought to be one of britain's most complete examples of a medieval Cistercian abbey. building began on the abbey in 1152 & it took more than seventy five years to finish. The historic abbey is now a Grade 1 listed structure.
As well as Kirkstall Abbey, Leeds has many other stuff to do, including the historic Kirkgate Market.
If you want to shop til you drop, Leeds is the ideal place to do it. The city boasts some exciting shops to suit any budget including high end shops love harvey nichols & Louis Vuitton in the Victoria Quarter.
In addition to this, you'll find high-street shops in the city's headrow centre. alternative fashion lovers will also find some real bargains in the Corn Exchange, which houses shops including Grin.
If you would prefer to spend your time in Leeds doing more cultured pursuits, you will be pleased to understand that the city has 9 great museums and galleries. These include the leeds city museum and the superb leeds city art gallery, so you are sure to find something to entertain you.
If fast-paced city life gets too much, you will be pleased to understand that Leeds has some pretty green spaces and pretty parks, including the award winning mandela gardens. These pretty gardens were constructed at a cost of £12 million to celebrate the year 2000 and were jointly funded by leeds city council and the Millennium Commission. The gardens were awarded a prize at the 2004 Chelsea Flower Show.
