A Guide to Lanzarote

One of the seven islands that make up the Canary Islands, Lanzarote is a place of diversity and dramatic contrasts. Located just 71 miles of the coast of north-west Africa, they benefit from year round warm weather. This makes them a popular destination especially for those after some winter sunshine.

Lanzarote is accessible from nearly every UK airport with flights that take around four hours. There are also plenty of budget airlines that provide cheap flights to the island year round.

This is an island that has something for everyone, with a wide variety of resorts that provide lively bars and nightclubs. However, choose wisely where you stay as some resorts will not be to everyone's liking. There are plenty of other resorts available that provide a more peaceful environment to suit families or couples.

A popular tourist resort is Puerto del Carmen. Located just 30 minutes from the airport, this resort has a vibrant nightlife that boasts over 100 bars and discos that stay open until long after the sun rises. There are also souvenir and boutique shops galore to help keep you occupied when you aren't relaxing on the beach.

For a quieter, more relaxing environment then the resorts of Playa Blanca and Matagorda offer a great alternative for families or couples who prefer less of a hectic holiday. They have a coastline that is ideal for water sports enthusiasts and their crystal clear waters provide an ideal environment for snorkelling.

Lanzarote is a great year round destination that has something to offer everyone. There's an abundance of flights and holiday deals available, so there really is no better time to explore this exciting, vibrant island.
