Manchester is found in the northwest of britain was granted city status in 1853. A big city, it has a population of 452 000, which makes it the 14th most highly populated city in Europe.

The city has 2 major train station, manchester victoria & manchester piccadilly. it is also served by national and local coach and bus services, many of which depart from the city's chorlton street coach station.

Manchester initially came to prominence during the Industrial Revolution, which is when the city became the world leader in production and textile manufacture. the city is proud of its industrial history & a number of the mills that were in use during this time have been converted into flats & offices.

The city is also renowned for its commerce, science and technology. It boasts three universities & is renowned as the home of the Baby computer, which revolutionised modern computing.

Although the city retains many gorgeous Victorian buildings such as the town hall & Central Library, it also has numerous pretentious buildings. a number of these buildings were constructed after the city was bombed by terrorists in1996.

There are loads of activities to do in Manchester, including many museums and art galleries. occasionally of the best are URBIS, the jewish museum and the Whitworth Art Gallery.

The Whitworth gallery has a historic permanent collection of artwork, comprising of art by artists for instance Picasso, Paul Klee and David Hockney. in addition to this, the art gallery also has plenty touring exhibitions.

Manchester is a great place for shopping fans, because it boasts a vast variety of shops to suit any budget. From designer outlets such as harvey nicks and armani, to high-street outlets such as brand-new look, you will find everything you need.

For more outlets, you will be pleased to know that the huge trafford centre is a short drive or bus ride away. This major shopping mall boasts 280 outlets and is one of the largest shopping centres in great britain.

Manchester has fantastic night life, which means that its a fantastic place to visit for an evening out. From fantastic restaurants to trendy wine bars and cool night clubs, there is something for everyone here.

You could begin your evening with a pint of cider in one of the city's kooky inns. alternatively, you could enjoy a glass of wine or a yummy cocktail in one of Manchester's more classy wine bars. after that, you could go on to another cocktail bar or even to a nightclub, where you will be able to dance the night away. needless to say Manchester has a vast range of night clubs, which means that you're sure to find one that plays the songs you like.

If you're looking for somewhere special to stay during your manchester visit, you definitely won't be disappointed. in fact, the city boasts branches of most big chain hotels, containing the ramada & the Hilton.

For travellers on a budget, you will be happy to discover that the city boasts numerous guesthouses & b and bs too.
