Newcastle upon Tyne is a world well-known city located in Tyne and Wear. Newcastle draws its name from its situation of being on the banks of the River Tyne, as well as the castle built by Robert II of Normandy, the oldest son of William the Conqueror. Before being named Newcastle, the city was a Roman settlement starting from the 2nd century, under the name Pons Aelius.
Newcastle is also known for its traditionally well-known footie club Newcastle United, which just now residences stars such as England Striker Michael Owen. It was similarly the setting of the contemporaryblockbuster movie "Goal," which featured the football club, as well.
There are many places of interest when you visit Newfoundland for vacation. The City Walls, a very large and commanding surrounding wall that protected Newcastle in the 13th century, still stands in some pieces today. This is an amazing piece of history to discover! Visit the Arbeia Roman Fort and Museum and see the weapons and forts that the Romans used as far back as the first century, AD. You will also enjoy many other archaeological artefacts that have been discovered and are displayed in the museum. You can take a tour of St. James Park, which is the home of Newcastle United. See the dugouts, or be at the pitch side and take a tour throughout the whole field and changing rooms.
Take advantage of the many things to do in Newcastle. Shopping is a big draw here; take a walk through the many works of art displayed for sale at University Gallery, and see many interesting photos from local and regional artists at the Side gallery. Or visit the many parks located throughout Newcastle, such as Gibside, Exhibition Park, and Leazes Park. All the parks are beautifully maintained and easy to get to, and popular for tourists and locals alike. Newcastle offers a wide variety of museums for kids and adults, which in turn offers entertainment and learning value all at once.
Newcastle has the complete collection of restaurants, bars, pubs, and takeaway stalls for a perfect city holiday. The wide range of cuisine that Newcastle offers is highlighted by the art deco style of Malmaison, or the majestic view of the river from the Rooftop Restaurant. For Indian food, the Vujon is gaining greater reputation within the Newcastle community, offering a variety of regional flavours from its deep menu. If you are looking for affordable restaurants, the Bigg Market will give you a flurry of eateries that you can choose and pick from. Here, you will find Rupali, Simply Greek, and Numjai.
Certainly the best entertainment in Newcastle comes from St. James Park. Whenever Newcastle United Football clubs play a match, all the fans and the townspeople are involved in it. Everyone supports the players through thick and thin. Michael Owen, for example, has gone through a series of injuries, but the Newcastle fans still believe that he is the answer to their striker problems. Another example is Obafemi Martins, who after being rejected by FC Barcelona, was housed by the warm Newcastle crowd. An apt final example is Joey Barton, who always has court cases for assault. Both the Newcastle manager and the Newcastle fans still stand by him and support him during rough times.
When it comes to entertainment, there's nothing more entertaining than the excitement of Newcastle football, along with the warm crowd that can appreciate the human aspect of the athletes.
Newcastle is surely a nice place to visit, as it is a football Mecca as well as a nice place to observe traditional English culture. There are places that offer beer, football, wine, and tea - all the things that make up a solid, traditional English town. The Tyne Bridge is also an attractive place even for non-football fans.
