Over the years the tourism sector in East Africa especially Kenya & Tanzania has continued to evolve in different ways so as to meet the needs of a fast growing dynamic market.
One of the fastest growing concepts in Africa luxury safari tours is that of Bush Homes. The Bush Homes of East Africa are a selection of safari destinations, as varied as the different habitats they occupy, and as individual as their owners.
Bush homes range from private game sanctuaries, farms, luxurious secluded tented camps stunning wildlife ranches to private estates, homesteads and traditional tented camps. Each bush Home offers its guests a unique adventure enriched with old time hospitality.
In Tanzania we have the Oliver's Camp, south of Tarangire National Park, River Trees near Kilimanjaro and Mt. Meru, Ndarakwai Camp on Ndarakwai Ranch. Others are West Kilimanjaro, Matemwe Bungalowsin rural northeast coast of Zanzibar, Gibb's Farm, Chumbe Island of the Zanzibar coast, & Kirurumu Tented Lodge on the edge of the Great Rift Valley.
In Kenya, Ol Kanjau Camp in the greater Amboseli, Rekero found within the Masai Mara Game Reserve close to the convergence of the Mara and Talek River , Acacia house located in a secluded valley in the north of the Masai Mara Northern Conservancy overlooking the renowned Rekero waterhole among others.
The couples or families that run these homes are extremely knowledgeable and experienced as most are long-term residents of their areas. This has in turn converted them into expert local guides due to their interest in the landscapes, animals and peoples with whom they live.
Bush homes accommodate only very few guests at a time i.e. between 4 to a maximum of 30 guests. This in turn provides desirable service with a personal touch by personal hosts in the wilderness of Africa. The homes apply principles of responsible environmental stewardship and work with local leaders, development professionals, wildlife authorities and wildlife researchers to develop low impact facilities.
Bush homes grow their own food and offer tasty home cooked meals at meal times. Meals range from African dishes, to traditional flavors and various world cuisines. Picnic lunches, bush breakfasts, and bush campfire & bar can be easily arranged. In the evening guests can gather either around indoor fireplaces, or outdoor campfire for snacks and sundowners.
The activities available will vary depending on the locality and diversity of the particular area. For example for homes around the coast region, activities may include padi dive centers, scuba diving sites providing an endless variety of fish and corals to see, sailing trips, or just relaxation on hammocks. In other areas the activities may include ethno botanical walks with rock climbing, canoeing, mountain biking etc.
Game walks with an experienced guide, Night game drives – after dinner enjoythe nocturnal birds and animals, exploring on horseback, Bush meals – farm fresh meals prepared where and when you want them, and education on the available plant life, studying the rich cultural history among many other activities.
Bush homes are here to stay as they provide the adventure seekers with an interactive opportunity with the African bush. The bush home guests share the wonders, the wildlife, and the vastness that is Africa, with those who have chosen the wilderness of this land for their homes thus they keep coming back for more of the same experience.
