Al Fahidi Fort - An excursion to Dubai is not omplete without stopping over at the Al Fahidi Fort

Al Fahidi Fort is situated in the Dubai city centre. This splendid Fort was erected in 1799 and is one of the most well known historic landmarks in Dubai. Al Fahidi Fort was built to protect Dubai from naval threats and landward raids from neighboring tribes. But it has since then the fort has played a number of roles as an ammunition store, a jail, and even as the seat of the government and the ruler’s residence.

The Fort has now been transformed into the ‘Dubai Museum' attracting a range of guests, tourists and locals. Tourists to Dubai will find the Museum very interesting. It exhibits an ample assortment of items displaying the traditional richness of the area in history. The museum features colorful life size dioramas, sets of pearl and other artifacts that offer a profound insight into the old Arabian way of life. There is a 3,000 to 4,000 years old complete grave from the Al-Qusais archaeological site which is a significant showpiece of the Museum.

An exhibit containing items from excavated graves, which are 5,000 years old are some of the key hallmarks of the Dubai Museum. Presentations provide guests with an excellent look into the desert life, providing interesting information about pearl diving, trade and traditional Arab homes. The museum is a wonderful place to get an idea about history, culture and way of life in this desert Oasis.

The Al Fahidi Museum is open for visitors from Saturday to Thursday between 8.30 am to 7.30 pm and on Fridays 2 pm to 7.30 pm. Those who wish to explore Al Fahidi Museum and other interesting attractions could arrange their stay at a Dubai luxury hotel such as Raffles Dubai Hotel to enjoy the true beauty of this wonderful region.
