An Affordable Family Vacation in Barbados Including Surfing Lessons

Surfer's Point Guest House will give you the perfect family vacation if firstly you like Barbados, and secondly you want to relax and surf, whether it be pure surfing, kite surfing, or windsurfing.

With only seven rooms, and a real personality if one can say that about a Guest House, the beachfront Surfer's Point Guest House really does make for an affordable family vacation with an average price of less than USD150 a night.

What we are talking about here is peace and quiet, but the very nature of your fellow guests just adds to the undoubted charisma of the place. In many respects you could say that Surfer's Point Guest House is unique, there really isn't anything quite like it.

It is situated to the east of Oistens on the south side of Barbados, and not at all touristy, so uncrowded describes the area very well. In front of the Guesthouse is a sandy beach fronting a little lagoon, so it is safe for family swimming, and you can sit out on sun loungers and watch the surfers frolicking in the waves.

You couldn't ever describe Surfer's Point Guest House as a Hotel, so don't expect the finer things and you won't be disappointed, but you will be comfortable and you will have a good time. You'll enjoy sitting on your porch looking at the waves, and it makes an excellent place to enjoy breakfast. You are close enough to be lulled to sleep by the waves crashing onto the shore.

Whilst accepting that what you are going to get is an affordable family vacation it doesn't mean you have to do without air conditioning, and it works very well, and you'll find it a lot quieter than in some posh hotels. What you won't get is glass in the windows because your room will have wooden shutters. Actually the glass is unnecessary and the advantage of the shutters is darkness in the mornings, and coolness during the day. One thing you need to remember is that Surfer's Point Guest House isn't a hotel so never mind room service there is no daily maid service, but having said that if you ask for sheets pillowcases, and towels to be changed, this will be done with a smile.

There is a small kitchen with a microwave, small electric stove, and glasses, plates, cups, a coffee maker and a small fridge. You'll need to stock up on breakfast items, drinks, and nibbles, because there aren't exactly many places to go and eat breakfast.

You can go into Oistens for meals later in the day, but breakfast will need to be DIY.

You really must surf when you are here or you will feel left out. A couple of surfing lessons should get you started, and the two instructors will really help you when you are trying to stand, even if it wasn't your lesson time. The sensation of getting up on a surf board beats skiing, and water skiing by miles.

Staying at Surfer's Point Guest House you will need a rental car hire, and you can get all of this organised before you arrive. It's probably best to get Zed to collect you from the airport and the rental company will deliver the vehicle to Surfer's Point Guest House.

In terms of proper meals, the car is vital, because there are really good restaurants about five to ten minutes away. They are good, the food is deliciously fresh, but being Barbados it is expensive.

With the right mindset you will love Surfer's Point Guest House, just as long as you understand it isn't a hotel. The surfing is brilliant, the rooms are plenty good enough, and the area isn't touristy so you can get in amongst the locals.
Go for it.
