If you have ever spent time on a vacation in Georgia, then you know there is much that Georgia tourism has to offer. You can tour historic homes, be awed at Atlanta’s towering buildings, sample the savory food at local eateries and five star restaurants, go hiking, biking and more in the mountains or along its coast and a myriad of other family friendly fun activities. However, for many, some of Georgia’s greatest attractions include watching the animals at one of the zoos or aquariums or trying out the rides at some of the state’s amusement parks. To help plan your action packed itinerary, here are some of the best Georgia has to offer.
1. Zoo Atlanta-In 1984, the then 96 year old zoo was given a facelift in which the animal habitats were changed from cages to natural habitats. Today, you and your family can visit the Giant Pandas Lun Lun and Yang Yang; see the gorillas in the African Rain Forest; walk through the Living Tree house aviary; observe the rhinos, giraffes, elephants and others in the African Plains and, see animals such as the Komodo dragon in the Asian Forest. Other exhibits and attractions are the World of Reptiles, Flamingo Plaza. KIDZone and Wild Like Me.
2. Georgia Aquarium-As the world’s largest aquarium, the 8 million gallons of water here are home to penguins, eels, whale sharks, beluga whales and numerous species of fish and aquatic life—from freshwater to salt water. You will be amazed as you watch the sea animals and experience the interactive exhibits.
3. Yellow River Game Ranch- A 25 acre animal ranch where you can see animals indigenous to Georgia. Some of the animals on site are black bears, cougars, and more than 600 others.
4. Bo Ginn Aquarium and Aquatic Center- This is a fun place to visit and learn about freshwater animals in Georgia. The 26 tanks are home to an assortment of fish, reptiles and turtles.
5. Alpine Amusement Park (Helen)-This small park, like everything in the area, is strong on the Bavarian theme. Designed especially for children, the park offers 10 rides that area set up on a “pay as you go” basis.
6. Lake Lanier Island Resort- If you are looking for somewhere to make waves, play miniature golf, horseback ride, waters ski, jet ski and many other great activities then look no further. Here at Lake Lanier, you are sure to find something for everyone.
7. Six Flags over Georgia- No list of Georgia amusement parks would be complete without Six Flags. From its 9 racing roller coasters, 200 foot high tower drops, 360* looping Starship, numerous water rides, shows and special areas just for the younger children, this is a fantastic family outing.
8. Wild Adventures- Located in Valdosta this Georgia attraction is 5 parks in one. You will find a zoo, waterpark, Concert Park, Entertainment Park and a theme park.
Come see what Georgia has to offer. From animal adventures to riding roller coasters, there is sure to be something that will make you smile!
