AWESOME TRIP TO jim corbett tiger reserve .

Travelogue ,Corbett  national park …

The time was early November;. I got a call from my friend vipul  ,they were planning to go to Corbett national park  next week .I was thrilled to hear that  I was totally drenched , I wanted a good  break from the hectic schedule  ,  and this was a great chance . I agreed without any fuss, unlikely of me!

Jim Corbett was merely 40 km away from our town, kashipur but we had not visited it once, every time we had some sort of hindrance! We were four friends this time around to break this jinx..

We went to ramnagar  by our bikes , as we usually used to drive to meet our old school friends .we  reached the office and booked an early morning safari for next day. We checked-in a decent looking hotel and two a double bedroom. It was quite comfortable then we set out for an outing and went to Girjya Devi Temple.. We enjoyed a lot..The river Kosi was flowing with a very fast pace and its great adventure to cross it with foot. we had a night stay at ramnagar .after coming back . we went to kosi barrageat night , nice place to hang out .coldness and silence in air was really refreshing .

We were discussing the facts about Corbett national park which all we knew before hand . Jim Corbett National Park—named after the hunter and naturalist Jim Corbett who played a key role in its establishment—is the oldestnational park in India. it contains 488 different species of plants and a diverse variety of fauna.[5][] The British administration in early 1900’s established a reserve  here , known as Hailey National Park ) in 1936. The preserve was renamed in 1954–55 as Ramganga National Park and was again renamed in 1955–56 as Corbett National Park. The new name honours the well-known author and wildlife conservationist Jim Corbett, who played a key role in creating the reserve by using his influence to persuade the provincial government to establish it. Corbett National Park is one of the thirteen protected areas covered by World Wildlife Fund under their Terai Arc Landscape Programme. The programme aims to protect three of the five terrestrial flagship species, the tiger, the Asian elephant and the Great One-horned Rhinoceros

Early morning we were there before time, we were surprised to see, there was a big crowd waiting there .we stated gossiping with a guide to kill time. He told us that during season there is even more rush in tourists.

We were in shock to see the open jeep, how can they take us to the jungles without a cover; the guide laughingly told us the animal are more scared of you. But I soon realized the fun was in open jeep only, they took us around 20 KM deep in jungles. Our guide was a great guy , he kept on chirping with us and was busy in telling about the all famous park .he told us that there are  amazing 488 species of flora , Total tree basal cover is greater in Sal dominated areas of woody vegetation. We did see lots of deer, lagoons, different kind of birds and off course elephant too. But we all were all waiting for glimpse of a tiger which we were finally able to get as a tiger was relaxing in shade. It was a great sight; we all were all excited of being so close to a real tiger. Our guide was passing his knowledge regarding the park in easy going and in storytelling fashion, which made it more pleasant. Over 585 species of resident and migratory birds have been categorized, including crested serpent eagles, blossom headed parakeet and the red jungle fowl — ancestor of all domestic fowl. 33 species of reptiles, 7 species of amphibians, 7 species of fish and 37 species of dragonflies have also been recorded.

Bengal tigers, although plentiful, are not easily spotted due to the abundance of camouflage in the reserve. Thick jungle, the Ramganga river, and plentiful prey make this reserve an ideal habitat for tigers who are opportunistic feeders and prey upon a range of animals. The tigers in the park have been known to kill much larger animals such as buffalo and even elephant for food. The tigers prey upon the larger animals in rare cases of food shortage, often in packs using the advantage of numerical superiority. The reserve has enormous boars, weighing up to 200 pounds, who provide a match for the tigers as a large male boar is capable of killing a tiger. There have been incidents of tigers attacking domestic animals in times when there is a shortage of prey.[6

Our guide also told us that the construction of a dam at the Kalagarh river and submerging of  low lying reverie area.[10] led to  local extinction of swamp deer to a massive reduction in hog deer.

We all had great time out in the wild; we enjoyed the beauty with the beast.

There are lot of souvenir’s shops for shopping merchandise related to park, The safari was amazing, we returned and spent the whole day on the banks of river kosi and were very happy to be there, planning for our next expedition..
