Bhopal Travel

Whenever we talk about Bhopal, the first thing that comes to mind is the world's worst ever industrial disaster - a gas tragedy that the city of Bhopal faced in December 1984. The toxic gas that leaked from the Union Carbide factory claimed some 5,000 lives; the wounds of which are still afresh in the memories of Indians.

However, Bhopal is known for its laidback charm and is a part of the Malwa Plateau in the north-western part of Madhya Pradesh. The city, encompassed by hills, stretches along two artificial lakes, the Upper Lake and the Lower Lake. To the north of the lakes are bazaars and some old mosques flanked by narrow lanes. To the south is the new city with its leafy suburbs and industrial enclaves. The stately aura all around endows this town with a distinguishing appeal that never fails to impress even the most discriminating tourists. Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh was founded in the 11th century by Raja Bhoj of Paramara dynasty. Bhopal is also the gateway to visit some fascinating sites in Madhya Pradesh. Bhopal is one of the few cities in the country which has been able to retain its old world charm along with all the modern influences. About Bhopal it is said that it is the city of lakes and it is quite true as it is dotted by numerous exquisite lakes. Make sure that you have enough time in hand since there are many things to watch in Bhopal. Bhopal is famous as being the city of lakes or the taals, and people from all around come here to see the natural beauty of this city.

Interesting places to visit in Bhopal include the Taj Ul Masjid, which is believed to be the largest mosque in the country. This pink towering mosque was commenced by Shah Jahan Begum and the most striking features of the mosque are the impressive main hall with its inter-arched roof, the three white domes and the two white domed massive minarets. Its broad façade, spacious courtyard and smooth marble floors are impressive. A three-day ' Ijtima', a congregation of Muslims in India, held here annually, draws people from all over the country. For visitors, another place not to be missed is the Gohal Mahal. Situated in the banks of the magnificent Upper Lake, the palace was built by Gohar begum, who was the first woman ruler of Bhopal. The palace showcases a perfect blend of Hindu and Mughal Architecture. Another place you just cannot afford to miss out the stately hall of public audience of the earlier rulers of Bhopal, the Sadar Manzil.

The hotels in Bhopal give the best value for money and offer top class service. The Hotel Lake View Ashok is located in Shyamla Hills, and is a beautiful lake facing 3-star property offering its guests luxurious accommodation with spectacular views. As far as accommodation goes, there are plenty of options to choose from ranging from all budgets to preferences.
