Carry On Luggage: What To Pack And What Not To Pack

Do you ever put much thought on what to pack on your carry-on luggage? You have to put some thought on what to carry before getting on that plane.

In packing stuff for your carry-on luggage, you might want to bring an extra change of clothes and some form of entertainment like a good book, a portable music player, a game console, etc. to avoid feeling bored during the plane ride. It is recommended that you pack something that would prove to be very useful for you in the next two days in case incidents happen involving the loss or delay of luggage arrival for instance.

There are several important things that you should not forget to bring on your carry-on and making a list of it will help you remember them when packing. Of course, the most obvious would definitely be your plane ticket and passport (if traveling out of the country). Have the necessary contact information of your travel agent and bring proof of your travel insurance as well. Bring along a photocopy of your passport which you could put in your purse or you could give this to your traveling partner if you have one. Other items include your traveler's checks, medications in their original bottles including the prescription (in case you lose your medication), camera, cellular phone and charger. Kleenex will be useful for wiping spills and for women bring along female sanitary products just in case. If you are traveling with kids, bring along for them some snacks and toys.

There are items that are prohibited to be packed on carry-on luggage. Such items will be confiscated and worst could even prevent you from boarding on your flight. Of course, it is common knowledge that guns, baseball bats, hatchets and knives are strictly prohibited. Other items include metal scissors that have pointed tips, axes, ice picks, razor type blades except safety razors, swords, etc. When in doubt, you can always check with the airline.

Aside from what to pack and what not to pack, you should verify as to the allowable carry-on size your airline allows. While weight can be a factor, certain airlines don't have any restrictions when it comes to the carry-on luggage weight but then impose restrictions when it comes to the size. You are basically allowed one carry-on luggage and one personal item (purse, laptop bag or a smaller carry-on bag not bigger than 36 inches). Carry-on luggage dimensions may vary from airline to airline but there is a standard of 22"x14"x9" equal to 45".
