The US Extreme Skiing Championships and the X Games are held at Crested Butte but the resort is also beginner friendly and so can cater to first timers and adrenaline junkies alike! The town itself also has a Nordic Center equipped with an ice skating rink along with long stretches of wide-open, groomed cross country skiing trails.

Crested Butte Mountain Resort was a grand success since its initial opening in 1961. The Resort recently underwent a rebirth in 2004 when the resort was “re-opened” by Tim and Diane Mueller. CNL lifestyle properties being the new owner of the resort, with the Mueller’s still running the operational wheels, has invested $315 million in on and off mountain improvements and facilities. The Mueller’s remain focused on evolving and popularizing the resort in order to answer the growing needs of the community, at the same time, upholding the native culture.
