Birmingham is in the West Midlands, which is in the heart of England. It's Britain’s second most highly populated city with an impressive number of residents that’s second only to the capital.
Birmingham initially rose to prominence during the industrial revolution. Because of this, the city has a massive network of canals, which has more miles of canal than Venice. The city also has a number of notable associations, which include HP Sauce, Tony Hancock, Cadbury's, Black Sabbath, the Spitfire and the Mini car.
In addition to this, Birmingham is well-known as a national commercial centre & it’s been named as the third best location in the UK to locate a business. It has also been named as the 21st best place to locate a business in Europe by a 2007 Cushman & Wakefield report. As well as this, it is also the 4th most visited city by foreign visitors to the UK.
Things to Do
For an educational and fun day out in Birmingham for the whole family, you should visit some of Birmingham’s fascinating art galleries or museums. The city has some fabulous ones, which include Cadbury World. Cadbury World - the UK’s only visitor centre devoted entirely to chocolate - takes fans of chocolate through the entire chocolate making process and there are always many tasty samples to try! Some of our other favourite museums and galleries are the Sea Life Centre, Selly Manor and the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, which has some fabulous exhibits.
If you're a shop lover, you certainly will not be disappointed by city centre Birmingham. From designer stores to small, independent boutiques, the city truly boasts something for everyone. There are plenty of independent shops in the city's Custard Factory, which was constructed on the site of a former Bird's custard factory. In addition to this, you will find high-street shops in the city's Pallasades shopping mall that is located just above New Street train station. Alternatively, you could look up the city's brand-new Bullring shopping mall, which boasts more than 150 different shops for you to browse and enjoy.
With rustic pubs, exclusive cocktail bars and fabulous nightclubs, Brum boasts everything you require for a fabulous night out. Lovers of dance music will be happy to find plenty of massive dance night clubs, while fans of rock and indie bands will be pleased to find numerous live music venues which hold regular concerts.
