Likewise Christmas, Easter is another festival celebrated by Christians in Kerala and the whole of India.
Christians celebrate Easter in remembrance of the resurrection of Jesus Christ who died for humanity in the cross on Good Friday. It usually falls on the month of April.
Most of the churches of Kerala conduct midnight masses on Easter day. After observing the long fifty days lent, Christians of Kerala celebrate Easter with great enthusiasm. Most of the Christians take fasting by avoiding the intake of fish, meat and egg. They themselves maintain the holiness of the festival by following this sobriety. On Easter day, it is truly a grand gathering of family members. It is time to enjoy and to have fun to keep the festive mood of the celebration.
History has marked out the truth that Jesus went through a period of physical and emotional torture for about 16 hours during his hours before death. The Roman soldiers beat Jesus fervently beyond any limitations for hours after He was executed for death. In addition, He was forced to carry the hard and heavy cross throughout the way. It is already noted that Jesus died on cross at 3 p.m on April 15th, 30 A.D and raised form death on April 17th. The resurrection of Jesus is a truth that there are solid proofs that indicate the same. Hence, faithful believe that Jesus has died and is raised for the whole humanity and is truly alive in the midst of all.
The Lenten fasting starts with Ash Wednesday. The main preparation of Easter starts one week prior to it with Palm Sunday. Maundy Thursday and Good Friday are the days that accompany Palm Sunday. On the eve of Easter, Christian houses are filled with joy and peace that keeps the celebration at its high with the tasty cuisines.
