Royal Rajasthan not only lures tourists by its majestic forts and palaces but also by its exquisite fairs and festivals. There are quite a few fairs through out the year which are blend of fun, excitement, music, dance and a lot more. These fairs make the desert land lively, viverant and colourful and help to keep alive the traditions and culture of Rajasthan. All the fairs of Rajasthan become host of huge number of tourists as well as natives. The main motif of all the fairs are to celebrate with music and dance and some fairs are for trading purpose also. The fairs of Rajasthan are celebrated all throughout the year at several destinations can be broadly distinguished into animal fairs, fairs to mark change of seasons, religious fairs and more.The famous fairs of Rajasthan are -

Nagur Festival- Every year during Jan or Feb the picturesque town ship of Nagur get vibrant and colourful by the annual cattle festival. Is is the second largest cattle fair in India. It is renowned for trading in cows, bullocks, camels and horses. The owners are seen wearing colourful turbans and flaunting long mustaches. This is a famous fair to the animal trader.

Elephant festival- The venue of Elephant festival is Jaipur. It is an excellent sight to view that the elephants are wonderfully decorated and they catwalk before the audience. Every year before the holy the Rajasthan Tourism development organizes the famous elephant festival.

Desert Festival- The three days desert festival in Jaisalmer in the month of January put the desert in delightful spirit. The barren desert of Jaisalmer becomes lively and and colourful with colourfully dressed people. The traditional dances and musics are performed by the local artists. Tourists across the world come to visit this wonderful festival. There are exciting activities like camel dances, camel acrobatics, camel races and camel polo. There are interesting competitions like best decorated came, turban tying competition, and the Mr. Desert competition. In fact the desert festival of Jaisalmer is a journey into the heart of the Rajasthan desert.

Summer Festival – The summer festival of of Rajasthan is held in the tiny hill station of Mount Abu. It is held in the month of May as during this time the Mount Abu is the only cool place in Rajasthan. Different interesting activities, folk dances and the soothing atmosphere make the tourists relaxed and lazy.

Teej Festival - The women of Jaipur wait for this festival eagerly with the advent of monsoon. It is a festival of swings, celebrated in the month of August. Legends tell that the festival "dedicated to the goddess Parvati, commemorating the day when she was united with Lord Shiva after an agonizing separation." Thus the women of Rajasthan beautify themselves with jewelry and colourful dresses to lure their men. There are processions of women dressed in bright colour and lots of gaiety, fun and frolic during Teej.

Pushkar Fair – In the month of November the tranquil land of Pushkar that is the land of Brahma becomes vibrant, noisy and colourful as it is the time for Pushkar fair. It should mention here that Pushkar is an important Hindu pilgrimage centre and an important place for camel and cattle trading during fair. Musician, director, artists, singers from all parts of the world join this fair. Pushkar is Rajasthan under one roof during fair.

The fairs and festivals of Rajasthan are an end less process. The other famous festivals are Marwar festival Jodhpur, Camel festival Bikaner, Baneshwar fair, Baneshwar, Mewar festival Udaipur, Urs Ajmer Sharif, Ajmer and some more.
