Glasgow was once the Ship building capital of the world, and is easily the largest city in Scotland. It is a UK city that is built on a grid, with all roads running east to west or north to south, meaning it is hard to get truly lost in Glasgow.
Glasgow has really come on in recent years and as transformed itself into a tourist location. As a result there are plenty of hotels in Glasgow and they service a range of budgetary requirements. But Glasgow as another string to its bow that not many people know about, it actually as more parkland than any other British city!
There is the famous Glasgow green, known locally as the “Green” but along with this one there is some 69 other parks within the city boundaries.
Along with its parks Glasgow is a city of great football passion, the three largest football stadia in Scotland being found in Glasgow. The national Stadium Hampden Park and the two other stadiums belong to Glasgow Celtic and Glasgow Rangers! The city is a divide city when it comes to football, with the local derby being referred to as the “old firm”.
Glasgow was also the venue for the first long distance transmission of TV pictures which was conducted from a hotels in Glasgow by John Logie Baird the inventor of the television.
The nightlife of Glasgow is a varied experience, from the heavy duty drinking to the cultural delights of the cities restaurants; it has great array activities that mean this city is really worth a visit!
