Kilwa in Tanzania E Africa

KILWA-Tanzania
The recorded history of Kilwa does not start till the 10th century. It may have been the Pharaohs daughter whom Solomon married who began it. Solomon wife wanted ivory, apes, peacocks, and all the luxuries of the East which had long been known to Egypt. Solomon needed Gold and Silver for the treasury of Jehovah, for the building of the Temple, for his palace and garrison. The wealth of Kilwa during the period of her ascendancy depended partly on commerce in Ivory but chiefly on her monopoly of the gold trade from Sofala. A well worn road centuries old leads from Kilwa to Lake Nyasa and is one of the few main slave caravan routes. Coins were struck at a mint set up at there. This mint is the only one ever established in Black Africa, Other than the later mints of Mogadishu and Zanzibar. Testifying to the wealth of ancient Kilwa a number of ruins such the Great Mosque ,the Gereza, the great house, the small Domed Mosque, Makuti, Husuni kubwa , Husuni ndogo, and Songo Mnara.
Kilwa Kisiwani was once the most famous trading post in East Africa. In 9th century the Swahili wealth owner of the island sold it to a trader called Ali bin Al-Hasan, the founder of Shiraz Dynasty. From 11th Century to early 15th Ali bin Al-Hasan managed to create a powerful city (Kilwa Kisiwani) and as major trading center along east African coast. He built a great mosque, established close trading links to interior of southern Africa as far as Nyasaland and Zimbabwe.
In this sense , Kilwa Kisiwani became the principle trading port on the Indian Ocean. Its wealth came from the exchange of gold and iron from Great Zimbabwe and other part of Southern Africa, ivory and slaves from mainland Tanzania with textiles, Jewelry, porcelain and spices from Asia.
By the 13th Century Kilwa had become the most powerful city on the East African Coast, exercising political and trading domination as far as Pemba Island in the north and Sofara (the modern Beira in Mozambique) in south . It is the offshore location and the tidal currents that isolate the island from the mainland protected them from landslide attack.

Moroccan intellectual travel {Abu Abdullah Ibn Batuta} who had visited Kilwa in 1331, and the Portuguese sailors who visited the place about 170 years after Batuta, these travelers are credited with much of the Kilwa's Written History:- about the life, wealth and powerful trade control on East African Coast. Abdullah Ibn Batuta, arrived at Kilwa, he was amazed with its beauty.

Maasai Mountain of God
Oldonyolengai 2,870mt (9,650ft) to the summit is a spectacular, still active volcano near the edge of the Crater highlands to the north west of Ngongoro and little to the south of LakeNatron.Three hours drive from Arusha town.
Although it can be climbed in one very long day it has the reputation of the being the most strenuous and difficult of Tanzanians great peaks to climb. The track up is sand and slippery, and near the summit bare rock is precipitous and exposed. The climber constantly has the filling that he or cold fall, and theirs to stop him until he reaches the plain 6000 ft below. It is not a mountain for the timid.
This is a sacred mountain to the Maasai who dwell in the region and the Maasai name, Oldonyoleng, translates as mountain of God. For the decades if not centuries, the Maasai have been climbing it for reasons of worship but is resent years adventures from all over the world have been trying to ascend it for the magnificent experience and view that it offers
