London is england's capital city & one of the world's leading financial, business and cultural centres. as well as this, the city's influence on politics, education, entertainment, media, fashion & culture make it a big international city.
London has 4 World Heritage Sites, which are the palace of westminster, Westminster Abbey & St. Margaret's Church, the Tower of London, significant Greenwich, & the royal botanic gardens in kew.
In 1863, rising traffic congestion on roads in london led to the erection of the world's first metro system, the underground.
The city was badly bombed along the 2nd world war & many people were killed. after the war, many buildings in the city had to be built again.
Following world war two, immigration transformed London into one of the much diverse cities in Europe. Immigration was not always smooth, because there were major race riots in notting hill & brixton, but intergration was definitely more smith than in other british regions.
London is a exciting location for tourists, especially as its got so many museums & art galleries. these include the Natural History Museum, which first started in 1881. This exciting museum boasts sometimes snazzy exhibits, which include the famous replica diplodocus skeleton, known as dippy, which is exhibited in the museum's central hall. Another exciting exhibit is the skeleton of a blue whale, which weighs a big ten tons & is displayed in the large mammals hall.
From kooky markets to designer shops, London has some wonderful shopping opportunities.
Oxford street is widely regarded as the best street for shopping in england. The street has topshop's famous flagship shop, in addition to a huge Selfridges, which has been there since 1909. recently, a huge Primark shop opened on the street and its proved extremely popular with shoppers.
London is renowned for its exclusive cocktail bars, nightclubs and theatres. One of the most well known night clubs is Fabric , which is situated in Leicester Square. This huge club has a 1600 capacity and it attracts some huge name DJs, especially on Fridays when it holds its well known Fabric Live event.
Another exciting club is Ministry of Sound, which is situated in Southwark.
Because it is such a enormous location, London is truly simple to get to. in actual fact, it is well connected by rail & has some historic train stations, including London Bridge, London Victoria, London Euston & Liverpool street. in addition to this, the city also has 3 massive airports, Heathrow; Stanstead & Luton.
Driving in London can be tricky because of the congestion charge, however the city has a great underground & bus network to help people get around.
