London boasts a long and fascinating history, which initiated when the romans founded the first major settlement there in AD 43 after the Roman conquest of great britain.

London was particularly prosperous in the 18th century and it became the world's largest city from 1831 to 1925. the growth of london was helped by London's first railways, which put country towns within easy reach of the city. The rail network expanded truly rapidly, which made London expand into its surrounding areas and merge with close by settlements for instance Kensington.

Ever since then, London has continued to thrive and it remains one of the world's biggest cities.

London is well-known for its fantastic museums and galleries. One of the most well-known museums is the victoria and albert, which was constructed in 1852. it is the world's biggest museum of decorative arts and design with a permanent exhibition of over 4 1/2 million pieces. nowadays, the museum covers a major 12.5 acres and 145 galleries. it is a huge tourist attraction and, in 2006, it had 2,400,000 visitors.

Needless to say that the shopping in London is the finest in the uk. In fact, the city has a vast variety of famous stores, which contain Harrods and Hamleys.

Camden Town is well known for its alternative stores and great market. it is a diverse place, which sells everything from vintage clothes to music.

On the other hand, shoppers should go to knightsbridge or mayfair for the more high end stores. you'll find some marvellous designer brands in this vip area.

London is well known for its elite wine bars, nightclubs & theatres. One of the best-known clubs is Fabric , which is located in Leicester Square. This massive club has a 1600 capacity & it attracts some massive name DJs, especially on Fridays when it hosts its well known Fabric Live event.

Another fabulous club is Ministry of Sound, which is located in Southwark.

There's thousands of hotels, guesthouses & bed & breakfasts in London, so there's accommodation to suit any funds. From well known names including the Hilton, the Dorchester & the Marriot, to cheap hostels, there truly is something for everyone.
