With autumn mere days away, many have already bid farewell to summertime and all its quintessential associations - from outdoor barbeques and warmer weather to summer holidays. However, the arrival of autumn doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy some of these activities all the same.
For many, one of the most missed aspects of summer is the prospect of taking a holiday. After all, children are on holiday from school during the summer months, and warmer climates make it easier to travel to all kinds of destinations. But autumn is another ideal time of year to travel, for a number of reasons. To begin, destinations don’t become overcrowded with tourists, making it easier to enjoy many attractions and activities. Autumn weather is also still usually mild, so you can travel without the worry of getting caught up in icy conditions.
If you have children in school, it might be trickier to travel during the autumn months - but it’s certainly not impossible. You can, for instance, consider embarking on a weekend or short getaway. Of course, this means you might have to stick to closer travel destinations - such as somewhere in the UK. But that doesn’t mean you’ll have fewer options with regard to holiday settings. Whether you love bustling cityscapes or prefer the calm of the scenic countryside, the UK has much to offer.
Why not travel to Somerset, Devon, or Cornwall for a quieter, more relaxing getaway? Or, if you prefer bigger city settings, head to London, Edinburgh, Birmingham or Manchester. Whether you’re travelling with the entire family, as a couple, or on your own, it’s worth seeing what types of activities are on in each of these destinations before you arrive. That way, you can utilise more of your short break to have fun.
For example, if you’re planning to head to Manchester with the entire family, it’s a good idea to research a range of family activities that you can delve into upon your arrival. Manchester’s Art Gallery, for instance, features a free family art club where kids and parents alike can play games and get creative, while Whitworth Art Gallery offers Toddlertastic! Adventures in art, dance and music. The Museum of Science and Industry offers another great option for families, with a regular programme of hands-on events to enjoy. And, if you and the kids are up for a little adventure in the snow, head to Chill Factore - Manchester’s indoor ski village, where families can enjoy snow tubing and luging. Exploring activities such as these - and searching for hotel deals in Manchester - well ahead of time will ensure that you and your family get the most out of a short UK getaway this autumn.
Autumn might be just around the corner, but it’s not too late to enjoy a holiday with the entire family.
