David Miller is a well known author who writes extensively on events and San Diego accommodation . He is well versed with all events which happen in San Diego.
Air shows spend hundreds of millions of dollars on showcasing the country’s best military and civilian aircrafts. They also feature the best and highly trained pilots from all over the world. Despite the fact that a humungous amount of money is spent in organizing such lively air shows, these annual events are the most cost-efficient family entertainment alternatives available today.
The Miramar Air Show is an event I have not missed for the last 4 years. Last year I attended the event on all the three days. The Miramar Air Show 2008 was a spectacular show and the best part of it was that we watched the entire show from a private chalet. The chalets provide wholesome facilities such as parking, food, water, soda, shade, sunscreen and even alcohol!
All the flights, pilots and the ground demonstration team pass directly in front of the chalets. From where we were seated, we got a first hand view of all activities.
There was also a static display which showcased military aircrafts, war birds and civilian aircrafts. But once the show starts, there will hardly be any time to view the static displays as something keeps happening from the start till the end. And if you are planning to come to San Diego for the air show, look for some affordable San Diego accommodations and book your rooms in advance. Once the 3 day event kicks off, San Diego will be bustling with tourists from all over the country.
The MCAS Miramar Air Show is open to the public with free general admission and parking. However, if you want preferred seating, the cost of a ticket is less than a movie ticket for a night at the theatre. Tickets were earlier available at $6.25 for adults and $4.25 dollars for children. Hope the prices have not changed this year.
Marine Corps Air Station Miramar was awarded the Dick Schram Memorial Community Relations Award for the “Worlds Best Military Air Show” by the International Council of Air Shows last year for their splendid show in 2007.
The Dick Schram Memorial Community Relations Award is presented each year to the military base which, in planning and implementing its air show or air event, exhibits traditional community relations as it considers the needs of its civilian neighbors. It is also a recognition of the military base for setting new standards of excellence in this area by including its community in the planning, execution and rewards of the event.
Therefore, I had huge expectations last year and they simply exceeded all my expectations. I have been a fan of military and war flights ever since I watched Tom Cruise snake his way around in the sky in the movie ‘Top Gun’. But last year, it was much better than the movies. They had people jumping out of planes. They had the F-16, F-18 and F-22 demos. They even showcased the AV-8B Harrier and the Fat Albert, of course. The ‘Stars of the Show’ was truly the Blue Angels who were back again in 2008 after a break of one year. The world’s best military acrobatic team put up a fantastic show last year.
Another aspect which thrilled me to the core was the ShockWave Jet Truck which runs at over 300 mph racing with airplanes. At 36,000 horsepower, the ShockWave truck has enough power to accelerate as much as close to a space shuttle can accelerate.
If you want to book chalets for your family, you can do it directly from the home site. You can click and print with no surcharge involved. And book your San Diego rentals at the earliest possible because all roads will lead to San Diego once the air show commences.
