The thing that Los Angeles Translation workers enjoy most about living in Los Angeles is that the sun shines everyday. Even if the day starts out cloudy, you know the clouds will burn off by noon. Before I moved to Los Angeles, clouds never bothered me, but now they really do. There must be people in the London and Moscow crying, “Global warming can’t be all that bad! Can we please just get a few extra degrees warmer?”
In steep contrast to Los Angeles, when you are coming in to land in London everything is drab and gray. In fact, everything is so gray that it is nearly unbearable. I bet the Brittish wouldn’t mind the cold so much as long as the gray skies would blow away.
Chicago is still my real home, though my base is now Los Angeles. Initially, I didn’t want to leave my work in the Chicago Translation business but I thought that I should to take a promotion. So, I rented a house, turned up at different business lunches and made cold calls to lots of executives. Then, some really nice accounts began dropping into my lap and I’ve stayed in Los Angeles ever since. I always find myself saying, “Wow, they made that film here and that one over there.” Whenever I have company, I always take them to is the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, where a lot of old film starts are buried.
