Packing For Your All-Inclusive Caribbean Trip: What to Bring

Have you just finished making your Jamaica travel plans? If so, your airline reservations are set and your stay at an all-inclusive resort is booked. Aside from taking the time to research popular vacation activities and attractions, you just sit back and wait. However, as your travel dates get closer, you should start packing for your trip. Packing for a trip to Jamaica is just like any other vacation, but you are not in the United States anymore. For that reason, it is best to be prepared.

What should you pack for your all-inclusive Caribbean trip to Jamaica?

Passport. A passport is required by law for traveling to and from the Caribbean, including Jamaica. This is one of the first things you should of done. If not, now check your passport. Make sure it is valid. If not or if you do not have a passport, request yours immediately. Passports typically take one month to process. Ensure you have yours in time for your Jamaica trip. Although a passport is required, a second form of photo identification, like your driver's license, is still advised.

Health insurance documents and a health history form. Some health insurance companies only extend coverage in to patients in the United States. Still, it will not hurt to have these documents handy. If you have known health problems, check with your doctor before traveling to Jamaica. Still, have a list of your known medical problems and any medications you are taking handy. There are no guarantees you will need medical care, but those with known health complications, should always prepare for an emergency.

Clothes. In terms of clothes, many tourists tend to over pack. That is your choice, but some airlines now charge you additional fees for extra bags of luggage. Familiarize yourself with these fees, so you aren't left surprised at the airport. As for your clothes, check the weather forecast first. If rain is predicted, pack a raincoat or a windbreaker. Rarely are coats needed, as a sweater should do for the slightly colder nights. Casual clothes are fine for the remainder of your trip. With that said, review your all-inclusive resort rules and restrictions. Some upscale onsite restaurants have dress codes.

Beach accessories. What is nice about all-inclusive resorts in Jamaica is the simplified planning process. A beachfront resort may include the cost of windsurfing, snorkeling, or scuba diving. In this event, you do not pay extra for rental gear or need to bring your own. In terms of beach gear and accessories, all you really need is your baiting suit, a sun hat, sunglasses, and a beach towel.

Health and beauty products. The poor United States economy has forced many hotels, including those out of the country to cutback costs. Before, you could walk into a hotel and find it stocked with shampoo, soap, and more. Now, that isn't always the case. Luckily, most all-inclusive resorts still provide these for guests. It may be a good idea to verify though. Bring the non-basics, such as skincare cream and makeup, from home. Pack whatever you anticipate using or needing for your trip. Most importantly, don't forget the sunscreen.

Money. Jamaica has their own currency. However, currency exchange is not necessarily required before leaving the United States. Exchange centers are common by airports and popular resorts. Most hotels, resorts, and restaurants accept credit cards and international bankcards. Cash is advised for those looking to travel outside of their all-inclusive resort. Have Jamaican cash available for attractions, cab or bus fare, and tips. Luckily, some super-inclusive resorts do not permit tipping, as it was already included in the cost of your stay.

The above mentioned list contained a few items that you should pack for your upcoming Caribbean vacation. It is best to plan ahead and be prepared, but don't let packing turn into a stress filled event. Should you forget something at home, many locations on the island of Jamaica sell what you need. In fact, your all-inclusive resort may have a small onsite store for added convenience.
