The famed resort of Pamporovo lies in the heart of the mystical Rhodope Mountain, a place of breathtaking beauty which has become the source of many legends going back into the millennia. According to Greek mythology, this mountain was the home of the mythical singer Orpheus. It was the beauty of this place that inspired the poet to crate his art.
Located in southern Bulgaria and bordering Greece, this mountain doesn’t have many high and rugged peaks – it is not of an alpine origin like Pirin or Rila Mountain. The Rhodope has a softer look – its rolling hills create an impression of a never-ending sea of greenery. Today more and more tourists are discovering this mountain and come forever under its spell.
Pamporovo is the sunniest winter resort in Bulgaria and the softer Mediterranean climate makes this place excellent not only for the lovers of winter sports but also for people who prefer a less active winter vacation. Situated at an altitude of 1,650m, Pamporovo is one of the best European resorts, catering to beginner skiers. There are numerous ski slopes that can be used by ski enthusiasts who haven’t mastered their skills yet. In addition, the resort offers an excellent ski school with group and individual lessons, taught by instructors, many of whom have international reputation.
Here, it is not uncommon to get a lesson from a former ski champion. Many say that Pamporovo is the best place to send their kids to learn how to ski. Besides the “nursery runs” the resort offers plenty of slopes for daredevils who have the opportunity to challenge “The Wall” – one of the most formidable ski runs in the resort.
Pamporovo has many lifts that create a very nice infrastructure between different ski slopes and tracks.
The mountain peak “Snazhanka” (Snow White) is accessible by lifts and on a good visibility day the panoramic view from its TV tower is incredible. Besides winter sports, the resort has plenty of other attractions and activities to offer. It has many restaurants with good food and exotic atmosphere, exciting nightlife, great entertainment and shopping.
In the summertime, Pamporovo is as attractive – the mountain comes to life and opens its doors to visitors to explore great hiking trails, mysterious caves, interesting rock formations, passages, lakes, villages, hidden away from civilization, and many other exciting places.
Pamporovo is heaven for kids. They can’t wait to get on the slopes. The resort has many runs that are long enough to keep skiers excited but at the same time are smoother and safer. The many lifts in the resort offer breathtaking views and provide a good infrastructure between different ski areas.
