Reasons to Visit Ajmer

Founded by Raja Ajay Pal Chuahan, Ajmer was originally called the Ajmeru or the invincible hill in the seventh centuary. The city was ruled by prithvi Raj Chuhan uptill 1193 A.D. untill it was lost to Mohammad Ghauri and Ajmer was passed on the feudal lords, Marwar rulers and finally the Mughals.

Pushkar: One of the interesting reason to visit Ajmer is offcourse the famous heritage city of Rajasthan India- Pushkar.  It is sacred city for Hindus and is located 11 kms to North West of Ajmer. The town came to existence in Seventh century B.C. thousands throung to the groundsof pushkar to observe rituals on the day of Karthik Purnima.

Ana Sagar : The sagar has been named after Anaji Chauhan and is an artificial lake. The lake was constructed with the help of the locals and the baradari pavillions were constructed by Shahjahan to facilitate long term stays.

Mayo College: In 1850, the Britishers reliazed that inorder to increase their space in India they need to create an institution and thereby Mayo college came into existence. Established in 1875, the first student was from the royal family and was Maharaja Mangal Singh of Alwar. The school fees for the student at that time depended upon the their background and valuable owned by them.

Adhai Din Ka Jhopra : Adhai Din Ka Jhopra means 21/2 day mosque and this was the number of days it took Muhammad Gauri to construct the mosque in 1195. Every year Ajmer observes a 2 and half day fair .

Ajmer Dargah : This is amongst the most important reasons to visit Ajmer. The Dargah is popular amongst domestic and overland travellers and has been built in memory of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti, a sufi saint, who came to India from Persia in 1192. The tomb of Moinudding Chisti is Marble building and close by is a beautiful mosque by Shahjahan.

Taragrah Fort: Erected in AD 1354,  the taragarh Fort was amongst the first famous forts of India to be built on hill. Intially the taragrah fort was named the Ajmeru Doorg and was constructed by Raja Ajay Pal Singh Chauhan. The Forts nestles itself at Nagphari region of Arravali range and offers panoramic view of the city.
