Seagulls Flog To Seahouses

Situated on the North Northumberland coast makes Seahouses the ideal base from which to explore the Scottish Borders and the hills and coastline of this magnificent part of England. It stands on the edge of the North Sea eight miles south east of Belford.

By road the directions to Seahouses is provided from the north and south of the country by the A1/A1M and the B1340. Alternatively, the A69 and A66 via the M6 offer good links to the A1 and B1340 for those travelling from the west.

By rail there are two railway stations close to Seahouses, Alnmouth and Berwick upon Tweed. Alnmouth is approximately sixteen miles south of Seahouses. Berwick is approximately twenty three miles north of Seahouses. Both stations are on the main Kings cross London to Edinburgh line. The companies offering services in the area are Great Northern Eastern Railway, Northern Spirit and Virgin Trains.

By coach the National Express provide city links to Newcastle and Edinburgh. Local bus or train routes may then be used to reach Seahouses.

There is a Ferry Terminal at North Shields with connecting services to Scandinavia, Netherlands and Germany. The terminal is approximately fifty miles south of Seahouses. The Newcastle Metro operates from North Shields into Newcastle Central railway station and the Haymarket bus station each providing convenient onward travel to Seahouses.

The two nearest airports are Newcastle and Edinburgh. Newcastle International Airport is approximately 50 miles south of Seahouses. Edinburgh is approximately seventy miles north of Seahouses.

The town offers a huge variety of activities for visitors. It is the departure point for boat trips to the Farne Islands and a centre for sailing, diving and fishing. A walk around the busy harbour is one of the highlights of any visit and is traditionally done with a bag of fish and chips. However you must watch out for the seagulls. Theres a sandy beach to the north, which gets busy in summer. In fact, the sands run unbroken from Seahouses to Bamburgh providing an enjoyable walk for the more energetic visitor.

In 1998 a sea festival was set up and Berwick Borough Council supported it. The festival proved popular and has continued since. It attracts people from a wide area as well as the local population. On Harbour Hill there is entertainment to keep you enthralled whilst enjoying the views.

A wide range of accommodation for visitors to the area from a weekend break to family holidays. Theres accommodation of every type caravans and camping, to guest houses, bed and breakfast and hotels is easy to find something within your price range. The main street includes gift shops, tea rooms and amusement arcades. A lively place and welcomes a large number of holidaymakers each year.
