Seattle Transportation (Town Car Services)

Organized ground transportation in Seattle began in 1871 with a wagon with two scheduled trips down what is now called First Avenue. From wagon, Seattle transportation improved into coaches, then streetcars, then cable cars. In 1889, Seattle became one of the first U.S. cities to adapt the electric streetcar, and in the 1930s Seattle developed highways for its automobiles and trolley buses. This move put an end to the city's rail system.

Today, Seattle is served by two bus systems. Sound Transit connects Seattle with its suburbs, while Sounder connects Seattle with Tacoma and other cities to the north and the south. A light rail system connects Seattle to Sea-Tac Airport. Today, however, Seattle transportation is largely dominated by automobiles.

A historic place with plenty of tourist spots to offer, Seattle receives millions of visitors each year. When traveling in and about Seattle, your choice of transportation between public transit and for hire cars or driving services should be determined by the level of comfort you seek, how long you intend to stay in Seattle and your budget.

Metrobuses are free or cost just around $1.25 or $1.50 depending on the time of the day or your destination. Taxis can be expensive especially if you stall in traffic. The flag down rate for a taxi is $2.50; the regulated fare is $2 per mile. However, taxis charge a waiting time of 50 cents per minute so you end up paying a lot especially if you stall in traffic. With Seattle belonging to one of the cities with the "worst traffic" in the U.S., your fare could accumulate a lot.

If you need comfortable Seattle transportation but not the luxury or the size of a limousine, town cars provide a middle-ground alternative to a taxi or stretch limousine. Seattle town cars are typically large, full-sized, rear wheel drive Sedans that provide luxury transportation like a limousine, but at much cheaper rates.

Seattle town car services abound in Seattle. Many are family-owned and operated. Their rates vary, but are typically based on hourly rates. Seattle town car services offer basically the same benefits:

* Airport shuttle: For a little extra charge (about $10), the driver can greet and meet you at the airport. They can transport you from the airport to your destination and back.

* Highly experienced, licensed and insured (for your protection) drivers and chauffeurs can move you around Seattle quickly, easily and accurately.

* Town cars provide comfort and privacy. Drivers know the best route in town so they can bring you to your destination right on time be it a ride to the airport, convention, or a trip to another town.

* Whether you are traveling for business or for pleasure, town cars allow you to relax and conduct business - no worrying about traffic or reaching your destination in a timely manner.

* No need to check the bus schedule; you'll always have a car at your disposal. Town car services are built around the passengers' schedule rather than the other way around.

* No need to worry about parking fees or car rentals.

Since rates vary, plan your trip ahead and shop for Seattle town car services. If your itinerary requires you to travel beyond Seattle, look for a company that has a license to drive throughout Washington State.
