Self Catering Accommodations in UK

The idea of self catering accommodations rented out to tourists and holiday goers finds its origins in Britain. It is the perfect getaway plan for spending a week or a fortnight in a picturesque countryside for a relatively cheap bargain. Whether it is a romantic vacation, a camping and hiking trip with your friends or even a large family vacation, self catering accommodations bring a personal and home-like spirit to these holidays.
Most of the cottages, bungalows and apartments that are rented out in UK are of the self catering type. Self catering basically means that you do not have waiters and maids to serve upon you during your stay. In other words you have to do all the chores, like cooking and even cleaning. You can also move about as per your convenience, without any restrictions of time on your movements.
Self catering accommodations are available in a variety of sizes, small cottages or apartments for a couple, family homes and larger accommodations for large groups of friends. Earlier, people had to bring along their own stuff like linens and pots when coming to stay at a self catering apartment. But now, times have changed. British accommodations are these days well equipped with all basic requirements that a person may need to live comfortably. They are also well furnished and some even have modern-day facilities like a television, refrigerator, telephone and even a computer system, though the latter two are quite uncommon.
People prefer these self catering accommodations more than booking into hotels. This is because they are cheaper, and also offer a similar standard of living. The dining out budget is saved as you can cook your favourite food and cherish home-made meal. Apart from this you feel like you are a local and not a tourist or a guest in the city. This lends a very familiar and homely touch to your holiday. It also gives you an opportunity to mingle with the local crowd and blend in with the city.
But, before renting a self catering accommodation, it is important to check a few things. The first and foremost thing is to check the central heating system and see if it is functioning properly. If the house has a fireplace, check if it is functional, and include the price of the firewood or coal in the total rent, if they are a necessity.
