Sheffield Boasts Some Exciting Museums & Galleries

Sheffield is in south yorkshire, the uk. it was called sheffield because the city originated in a field on the River Sheaf. the population of the city of Sheffield was estimated to be 525,800 people in 2006, & the city is one of the eight biggest british cities outside London.

It is traditionally an industrial city, which is famous for manufacturing steel. The city's steel working history was shown in the 1997 movie, The Full Monty.

The Sheffield area has been occupied sinceat least the last ice age. although, it was throughout the 18th century with the birth of the steel works, that the city really prospered. Indeed, the town was granted borough status in 1843 & given city status in 1893.

In the early seventies, a number of the city's steel works were shut thanks to competition from other countries. although this caused huge unemployment, Sheffield was later revitalised & it's now a bustling, futuristic city that's well known for its music, great music & impressive park spaces.

You'll find loads of exciting things to do in Sheffield. In fact, the city boasts some exciting museums & galleries, which are worth visiting. These include the fabulous graves gallery, which has some wonderful work by artists such as Cezanne, Turner & Sam taylor-wood. It also hosts regular touring exhibitions.

Sheffield has many to offer shopping lovers. the city is home to meadowhall, which is a enormous shopping mall with over 240 stores. The shopping mall was opened in 1990 & was one of the first out-of-town shopping centres in the uk.

Inspite of the cost, Sheffield city centre has some great stores, too. in actual fact, you will find everything there, from high-street stores love make over, to kooky independent stores.

Sheffield is renowned for its sports, which means that its a marvellous location to visit for an evening out. in fact, the city boasts many pubs, cocktail bars, & clubs.

Sheffield is home to marvellous bands including the arctic monkeys, pulp, the human league & ABC. if you want to watch the next big thing, you could visit one of the city's marvellous live music venues, including the plug.
