Sheffield is Great for a Pub Crawl!

Sheffield is a city in yorkshire, britain. it was called sheffield because the city began in a field on the River Sheaf. the population of the city of sheffield was estimated to be 525 800 people in 2006, & the city is one of the eight biggest british cities outside London.

Its historically an industrial city, which is famous for producing steel. The city's steel working history was shown in the 1997 movie, The Full Monty.

By the 14th century, Sheffield was already famous for the manufacturing of knives, & by the 1600s it was at the middle of of cutlery production in the uk. These industries led to the rapid growth of sheffield, which saw the town being made a borough in 1843 & being given city status in 1893.

Sheffield stayed a major industrial city throughout the first part of the 20th century, although worldwide competition led to the closing of numerous steelworks from the start of the seventies.

As we've already mentioned, Sheffield is a city of culture. This means that it's got plenty of fantastic museums & art galleries to explore.

One of the best museums is Bishop House. constructed around 1500, Bishop House is the most well preserved timber framed home in Sheffield. its located at the peak of Meersbrook Park & has housed many different families over the years[/MARK Now it is open as a museum & has some pretty period furniture, which gives you a real feel ofolde england.

Sheffield has some beautiful green spaces to enjoy and its one of the greenest cities in great britain. In fact, it has 78 public parks and ten public gardens to explore, which means that its a great city for fans of the great outdoors.

Alternatively, you could pay a visit to Sheffield's excellent stores In the city centre, you will find a vast variety of high-street shops, which include make over and zavvi. in addition to these, you will also find a vast range of designer shops.

Sheffield is renowned for its night life, especially its night clubs. in actual fact, the super club Gatecrasher began here. However, it has night clubs that cater to other styles of music too, including numerous rock clubs.

As well as exciting night clubs, Sheffield also boasts a handful of wonderful wine bars and wonderful live music venues, which means that it really caters to every taste.

Sheffield boasts fabulous road links and can be easily reached from most massive english cities. as well as this, the city is well served by rail, with frequent trains running from Sheffield train station to a wide variety of locations throughout england.

There is also an airport close by, Doncaster Sheffield Airport. The airport is situated 18 miles from the city centre and is mainly served by cheaper airlines, such as Thomsonfly.
