Shopping, Culture & Nightclubs - a Excursionist Guide to Leeds

Leeds is a lively city that is full of exhilarating cultural and tradition sites, which are great fun to explore. over 100,000 people come to work in the city centre every single day and 1000s more visit the city to shop, dine out or only to enjoy the variety of attractions Leeds has on offer.

Plenty industries have added to Leeds' wealth, but the city is particularly renowned for its clothes trade. There are several renowned names associated with the city, containing Thomas Chippendale who began constructing his renowned furniture there, and Michael Marks - of marks and spencer - who started his first Penny Bazaar there in 1884.

As well as this, it is also home to the historical Kirkgate Market. The market is Europe’s second biggest indoor market after Leicester and is open six days every single week. There are over four hundred stalls inside the market and a further 200 outside. It attracts over 100,000 visitors every single week.

Kirkgate Market first opened in 1822 as an open air market & the first covered sections were constructed between 1850 and 1875. Unfortunately, most of the building, except the Vicar Lane facade, was destroyed in a 1975 fire. inspite of the cost, the Market was refurbished in the early 1990s & after this, Kirkgate Market was upgraded from a Grade II to a Grade I listed building.

If you want to shop til you drop, Leeds is the ideal location to do it. The city has some famed outlets to suit any funds for instance high end outlets love harvey nicholls and Louis Vuitton in the Victoria Quarter.

In addition to this, you'll find high street outlets in the city's merrion centre. fans of alternative fashion will also find some genuine bargains in the Corn Exchange, which is home to outlets for instance Grin.

If you would rather spend your time in Leeds doing more arty activities, you'll be happy to know that the city has 9 fabulous museums and galleries. These include the armley mills industrial museum & the fabulous leeds city art gallery, so you are sure to find something to entertain you.

If fast-paced city life gets too much, you'll be happy to know that Leeds has some pretty green spaces & beautiful parks, which contain the award winning millennium gardens. These pretty gardens were constructed at a cost of £12 million to mark the year 2000 & were jointly funded by leeds council & the Millennium Commission. The gardens were awarded a medal at the 2004 Chelsea Flower Show.

As well as great shopping and culture, Leeds also has snazzy history. From elite cocktail bars and rustic pubs to gay clubs and amazing clubs, the city really has something for all of us.

If you'd prefer to have an early evening, you will be pleased to know that the city also has some great luxury hotels, comprising of the queen's hotel. These hotels offer a real treat, so you cannot fail to get a great sleep and a great breakfast.
