Singapore Flyer: A Glimpse Of Singapore

Singapore is an island that is small in size but big in thoughts! It has always been a destination that offers world class surprises for travellers from all walks of life. Speaking of big Singapore surprises, the Singapore Flyer unquestionably tops the list.
Carrying 28 air conditioned capsules, The Singapore Flyer has earned a name as the biggest observation wheel in the world and is also a major crowd puller. A single capsule is as big as a size of a bus and can accommodate up to 28 passengers in total. Each rotation takes nearly 30 minutes and this extraordinary work of genius can carry a total of 784 people at once.
It was the Japanese Dr. Kisho Kurokawa and DP Architects, Singapore who executed the designing aspect of the Singapore Flyer. It was designed dexterously to offer its passengers breathtaking views of the skyline of Marina Bay and the bordering Malaysia and Indonesia. The inspirations behind this exceptional architectural masterpiece were the world renowned London Eye and Eiffel Tower.
The design and construction of the Singapore Flyer provides maximum convenience for even visitors with reduced mobility since it has two synchronised doors and platforms on either side, so getting on and off would not be a hassle at all. It is also designed to rotate very smoothly even during heavy windy conditions.
This giant wheel officially started spinning in March 2008 and since then it has been offering its visitors a ride to remember. It took nearly two and a half years to complete this massive project however by August 2008 the Flyer hit the 1 million mark in ticket sales. The Singapore Flyer stands as tall as 165 metres and 150 metres in diameter. It occupies a land area of about 172 tennis courts.
These new generation ferris wheels such as the Singapore Flyer is a perfect, fun filled way of exploring the surroundings amidst maximum comfort. Passengers will have the liberty to simply walk about in the capsule and would hardly feel the movement.
