With spring right around the corner many families are beginning to plan their vacations and what better place to vacation than South Carolina. Rich history, sunshine, award-winning golf courses, numerous lakes and rivers, mountains, and the Atlantic coast give South Carolina its name for being one of the top vacation destinations in the United States. South Carolina has something to offer everyone and anyone regardless of what kind of activities you might enjoy.
For those who can't get enough of the great outdoors this is the place to visit. Here you will find a number of beautiful garden properties open for public viewing. The Edisto Memorial Gardens boasts approximately 4000 plants including 75 or more varieties of roses as well as a 2700 foot boardwalk that takes the visitor on a magical tour of the Horne Wetlands Park. The 14-acre Hopelands Gardens will delight the visitor in the spring in summer with bright colors and velvety textures with their variety of dazzling flowers and native plants. And for those taking a winter vacation Hopelands offers a spectacular Christmas light show throughout December. For those visitors that enjoy rich history there is the Middleton Place which is home to the oldest landscaped gardens in the United States. The gardens and the property date back to the 18th century at which time the property was used as a rice plantation. Here you will have the opportunity to view the oldest camellias in the world and an oak tree that has stood for approximately 1000 years.
For the outdoor lover South Carolina also offers over 80,000 acres of protected park land including a number of historic parks where visitors can fish, camp out, or just spend the day with nature. Enjoy lakeside tent camping at Devils Fork State Park or take a stroll through history by visiting one of South Carolina's Revolutionary War Sites or Colonial Settlements. The state also offers a number of cabin rentals for visitors who wish to enjoy the outdoors but still have the comforts of sleeping under a roof at night. Love fishing? South Carolina is known for its fishing waters as well. Here you can fish for freshwater fish or you can try your hand at saltwater fishing but either way you're bound to bring a delectable treat back to your accommodations to enjoy. Visit world class fishing sites such as Lake Marion or Lake Jocassee and you will soon see why South Carolina is known for its fishing. And don't forget South Carolina's fabulous beaches where you can relax in the sun and let your worries drift away with the receding waves and leave your stress far away back home. The state offers 200 miles of spectacular coastline where families can kick back and relax with a day in the sun.
