South India is the wonderland where attractions galore and its temples are one of them. They are an enchanting part of the region's rich cultural heritage. The beautiful temples are laced with interesting legends, in fact, each temple has it own unique story to tell. Some of these temples have also been internationally recognized because of their aesthetic appeal.

Some of the striking features of the South Indian temples are majestic gopurams, exquisite sculptures, beautiful mandaps and big tanks. These temples occupy a prized place in the culture of South India. Each of the South Indian states like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Pondicherry have their own share of temples some of which are very popular.

Some of the temples are famous for the fascinating monolithic pillars and sculptural motifs, some are admired for their carvings, gopurams, huge gateways and walled enclosures; and some are notable for their pyramidal roofs.

Out of all the states, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are the most famous for their marvelous temples. Their shining history majestically reflect in their temples, a great contribution by the rulers of Pallava, Chola, Pandya, Nayak and Vijaynagar dynasties.
