It also boasts of a beautiful Spiti river, which cascades down the deep gorges at some places. Here you can also see some arresting fields of barley, buck-wheat, peas and vegetables. The main Spiti valley is divided into eastern and western valleys.
One of the striking attractions of Spiti is shales (a rock of fissile or laminated structure formed by the consolidation of clay or argillaceous material). The Shaligram shale is the most famous one, holding religious importance.
Tourists can avail great adventure opportunities in the valley. Get your pulse racing by indulging in trekking, rock climbing, angling and paragliding. You can also plan a stay at the camping sites such as Sarchu, Darcha, Jispa, Gemur, Tandi, Koksar, Sissu and Chota Dara.
Key Monastery is another well known attraction of the valley. It is the oldest and the largest monastery of Himachal Pradesh. The beauty of its sculptures deserves mention. The Tabo Monastery here is popularly known as the 'Ajanta of the Himalayas'.
