Spring Break for Beginners

Spring break is a big deal for most college students. There is a lot to plan ahead of time to make sure that you have the time of your life. It can be overwhelming, considering it's the first time for some of us to leave the country and can be very expensive.

There is a lot to know before you head on break which is why we put this simple guide together to help you out.

1.Budget

Before you do anything you need to sit down and figure out a realistic budget and stick with it. Unfortunately everything adds up quickly so know what you have to work with.

Plan on spending your maximum budget but try your hardest not to go over it. The last thing you want to do after an amazing trip is come home to the stress of trying to play catch up with paying your bills.

2.Plan Early

The earlier you book, the greater discount you will receive. Many places give a 10-30% discount if you book in advance. The advantage of booking early is you not only save money up front but it gives you plenty of time to save up for the trip since you know the cost already.

3.Book in a Group

If you can get six or more people to purchase a spring break package you typically will get a discount for booking a group. However, be careful when your choosing who is in your group because remember you will be spending your Spring Break with these people.

Choose people that are on the same page as you as far as wanting the same things from your Spring Break experience. Bad people choices can ruin a great Spring Break experience. However, a good group can lead to the time of your life.

4.Choosing Spring Break Destination

This is the most important decision that you will need to make. There are many factors to consider when choosing your location.

  • Research-Check prices and compare packages
  • Decide what type of break you want, do you want the beach, hiking, skiing, etc.
  • Do you want to stay in the U.S or go out of the country

5.Researching Destination

Once you have decided where you are going it is important to research the area and find out what is available.

  • Know the area you are visiting-you may want to get maps before you leave.
  • What amenities does the resort have-beachfront, pool, gym etc
  • Find out if it is safe to leave the resort
  • Is your package an all inclusive (best way to go), meal plan or are you on your own.
  • Transportation-how to get from the airport to resort
  • Events-find out what’s going on for local events
  • Excursions-you may want to go snorkeling, booze cruise etc.
