Spring Break is a time to relax, have fun, visit places you've only heard of. However, its all to easy for your dream vacation to become your worst nightmare. This article is not meant to scare you but to help prevent anything bad from happening to you.
Read on for safety tips and advice to make your Spring Break as much fun as it can be without any problems.
Before you leave for Spring break you typically do a lot of travel planning. You should also include safety planning as well. Before you leave on break make sure to give your parents or a close friend all your travel and contact information. Include airline flight numbers, hotel, friends and phone numbers if possible. A detailed itinerary may seem silly but if something happens to you authorities will need all this information to help locate you or alert others to your status.
Now that you have made it safely to Spring Break you want to make sure you make it safely back home as well. First thing to do when you arrive at the hotel is to place your return airline tickets, passport and all major identification that you won't need on your vacation in the hotel safe. Its amazing how often these items mysteriously go missing while on vacation. There's nothing worse than having your passport stolen while in a foreign country; there are horror stories of trying to get him.
It's a good idea to room with a friend. It not only saves money but helps keep everyone accounted for. If someone doesn't come home it will be noticed much faster than if you were rooming alone.
Its also a good idea to go out in groups. Whether you are at the beach or a club its very important to stay close with your friends. Don't go off with locals or ?new friends? unfortunately that is just asking for trouble. It may sound silly but there is safety in numbers.
You may feel safer going to a bar or party but there are dangers you need to be aware of there also. Unfortunately the use of ?date rape? drugs are increasing in use. These drugs take only seconds for someone to put in your drink without you knowing. Your ?new friend? will try to be the hero and take you back to your hotel as you start to feel ill which could possibly lead to a dangerous situation. Make a plan with your friends to monitor each others drinks. It may be hard to do in a crowded bar or club but it's worth the extra effort when you consider the possible consequences.
Lastly, not staying within your budget can lead to a potential dangerous situation as well. There is nothing worse than running out of money in a foreign country before your trip is over. Before you leave home make a realistic budget and stick to it. The last thing you want to do is put a damper on your plans or put your self in a bad situation.
Spring Break can be the time of your life. You're in a foreign place having fun and the last thing you want to worry about is safety. It may seem odd to think about such things ahead of time but with a little planning and being smart you can have worry free Spring Break.
