1. Since you will be far away from home, make sure you have made appropriate arrangements for your home. This can include: activation of your home security alarm, setting security light timers, arranging for alternate mail and newspaper delivery, giving family or a neighbor your contact information and the cruise itinerary, arranging for the care of your pets and plants, and turning the heat down and turning off the water.
2. It is always a good idea to make a list of everything you will need to take on the cruise. This will help ensure you do not forget anything important. Such necessities can include: antibiotic ointment, medications, prescriptions, headache medication, passport, eyeglasses, contacts, motion sickness medication...etc. As well, make sure you let the cruise line know if you have any allergies or you have a medical condition. A few general items you may want to bring include: bottled water, sunscreen, sunglasses, binoculars, and a flashlight with batteries. Many people take Walkie-Talkies as they are a great way to communicate with your travel partner instead of running all over the ship looking for one another.
3. When you go on a cruise you have to make sure you have the appropriate clothing. You have to consider the ports you will be visiting, climate, weather, and whether you will be attending any formal events. Make sure you bring clothing for every type of occasion.
4. It is important that you are protected when you are on a cruise. Travel insurance is highly recommended, Travel insurance will provide coverage for such things as medical emergencies, lost or stolen items, compensation for emergency expenses, and much more. You want to make sure you're protected when traveling outside of the country. Bring identification of a medical condition such as a medical bracelet. In case of an emergency, make sure you have your list of medications with you.
5. Make sure you bring all of the essential documents such as cruise tickets, passport, credit card, maps, guide books, and traveler's checks.
6. You should have a carry bag to keep all of your important items. It should be a secure bag to avoid theft.
