We've all been there - been asked something ridiculous about our country by someone from a different country. If you're an Aussie, it's probably to do with a kangaroo. If you're Irish like me, it will be about leprechauns or Lucky Charms.
Nine MSN have put together some classic questions that Aussies have been asked by tourists like:
Does it ever get windy in Australia? I've never seen it rain on TV. How do your plants grow? (UK)
My wife and I enjoy walking tours. How long will it take us to get from Perth to Sydney on foot? (Canada)
What is the weather like in Vienna in May? (USA)
I've been asked some funny things on my travels. I wish now for the sake of this blog I had wrote them all down but here are a few I have not forgot...
Stereotypical American: Where are you from?
Me: Ireland.
Stereotypical American: What State's that in?
Canadian taxi driver: Where in Ireland are you from then?
Me: Derry.
Canadian taxi driver: Do you know Mick from Cork?
(Cork is about 430km from Derry and no, I don't know Mick)
Vietnamese child (staring at my ghostly white complexion) to my partner: Where did you get her?
My friends/parents/siblings on a visit back to Ireland from Australia: Do they have potatoes in Australia?
Is everyone in Australia tanned, gorgeous and able to surf?
Have you seen anyone from Neighbours or Home and Away yet?
