Overview
Providenciales is an island set along the Turks and Caicos island chain. This quiet island is known most for its gorgeous white-sand beaches that spill into the blue-green waters of the Caribbean Sea and its luxurious amenities. Some people travel to Providenciales because of its relaxed atmosphere -- you can sometimes sit on the beach all day long without ever seeing another person. Some people travel to the island for its world-class fishing opportunities and golfing resorts. Others fall in love with Providenciales because of the many outdoor adventures that the island offers. Either way, Providenciales has something to appease almost anyone.
Outdoor Activities
Travelers to Providenciales may want to make their first stop in Grace Bay. This is the home of JoJo, the island’s dolphin that lives and plays in the waters surrounding the coast. The waters surrounding Grace Bay are met by miles of coral reef where some of the world’s most exotic tropical fish are found. However, snorkeling and scuba diving tour guides and vendors can be found on just about every beach on the island. Apart from these activities, there are also ample opportunities for windsurfing, horseback riding, parasailing, sailing, and fishing. Providenciales’ golf course, the Provo Golf Club, is also a popular tourist destination.
Nightlife
Dining in Providenciales is an enjoyable experience. Restaurants range from upscale to café-like and offer a wide selection of international cuisines. However, the island’s fresh fish is its primary specialty. Fresh fish dishes can be found at the islands steakhouses, Mediterranean and Asian restaurants, and sushi bars. The island also has many unique stores for shopping, the most notable being The Bamboo Gallery. The Bamboo Gallery has a decent selection of Caribbean works of art that make for unique souvenirs. For drinking, most restaurants that serve dinner offer a decent selection of wines and liquors, and oftentimes people gather on the beaches for a little drinking and live music.
Providenciales Weddings
Providenciales is a popular wedding spot, one that was recently named one of the most romantic destinations in the world by a leading U.S. travel magazine. Travelers who choose to be married on the island can choose from saying their vows on the beach or in a chapel. Many companies on the island are more than willing to help engaged couples plan their Providenciales wedding, including caterers, flower shops, ministers, justice of the peace providers, restaurants, and resorts. Providenciales is also an amazing place for a honeymoon. Newlyweds may simply choose to stay for their honeymoon after saying their vows on one of the gorgeous Providenciales beaches.
