Vacation Ideas - 5 Great Places to Visit in Texas

Are you looking for some great vacation ideas? Consider a trip to the Lone Star State for your next family vacation. Texas covers a huge area and includes many different types of terrain. From major cities to mountains, magnificent beaches, hills, deserts and forests, Texas has much to offer. There are so many things to see and do that it is hard to choose, but here are some great vacation ideas that are definitely worth considering for your next trip.

Big Bend National Park
Big Bend National Park covers a vast area in Southwestern Texas. It includes mountains, desert, and rivers. In just a short distance one can travel from the banks of the Rio Grande River to Emory Peak with an elevation of 7825 feet. Camping and hiking are very popular at Big Bend. Single or multi-day float trips are available on the Rio Grande, and the scenery through some of the canyons is absolutely stunning.

Palo Duro Canyon State Park
Sometimes called the "Grand Canyon of Texas," Palo Duro Canyon is a "must see" for any visitor to Texas. The canyon is 120 miles long, and in some areas 20 miles wide, and reaches depths of 800 feet. The park offers on-site horse rentals, cabin rentals, tent and RV sites, and plenty of trails for hiking and mountain bikes. The Texas Musical Drama plays inside the canyon. Enjoy a spectacular meal and show with the beautiful scenery of the canyon as the backdrop to the stage.

Padre Island
Padre Island is a long barrier island off the Texas coast. It stretches about 130 miles from Corpus Christi, in the north, down to the resort community of South Padre Island. The Padre Island National Seashore occupies the middle to northern part of the island. It is undeveloped, and offers many opportunities for wildlife viewing. Activities include beachcombing, boating, camping, fishing, hiking and off-road adventures. South Padre Island is a popular resort community located on the southern tip of the island. It offers a wide range of accommodations, beautiful white sandy beaches, and fun for the whole family.

San Antonio
The Alamo normally comes to mind when San Antonio is mentioned, but it is just one of many attractions that you will find here. San Antonio is a great city to visit and it has so many fun things to see and do. While you are here, explore the Natural Bridge Caverns, and pan for precious gems. Take a stroll down the River Walk, and enjoy a fine meal or dessert at one of the sidewalk cafes. If you get tired of walking just jump on a boat for a quick ride to your next destination. Other San Antonio attractions include Sea World, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, and the Splashtown Water Park.

Dallas
No trip to Texas is complete without visiting the "Big D." Dallas offers a huge selection of lodging and restaurants to accommodate most any travel budget. Visit the Dallas Zoo, Six Flags or one of the many water parks. If you are interested in sports, Dallas offers much to choose from. While in the downtown area be sure and visit the Reunion Tower, the 6th Floor Museum, and grab a bite to eat at the West End.

Whether you visit Big Bend, Padre Island, San Antonio, or one of these other destinations, it will truly be a great trip. Be sure to make time for these special outings with your precious family. Start planning that special family trip today - you deserve it. Have a safe and wonderful trip!
