Volunteer for Jansa Roman Catholic Primary School in Ghana

The school has kindergarten and primary students, and teaches them English, Math, Science, & Environmental Studies. They started this school because the small children were unable to walk the 5km to Nsuta for school each day (The Junior Secondary School, and Senior Secondary School are still in Nsuta). It is a very small school, with only 3 teachers (one of these being the headmaster). The children at the school are from the Jansa community, and this school allows them to begin their education early, rather than waiting until they are old enough to walk to Nsuta each day. Volunteer Abroad has partnered with Jansa Catholic School to help them build a new building. The primary use of the building will provide the staff at the school with accomodation. The reason that this building is important is because most of the teachers have to commute each day to the school from a neighbouring town. They have to walk approximately 1 hour everyday to the village. Often, the teachers are unable to get to the school on time or are unable to attend school. In addition to the assistance needed this coming spring and summer to build the addition, volunteers are needed year round to assist with all aspects of the school. Volunteers can assist in the classrooms, help to develop and run extra curricular activities, and really just be willing to lend a hand wherever necessary.

Volunteers can help by doing following task:

-Help the building project-volunteers will be needed to dig foundation, lay bricks, framing, wiring, roofing, plumbing, and painting. -Run extra-curricular activities (sports, music) -Help tutor children individually based on need Other tasks that you may be requested to preform outside of your core duties: Assist the school by setting up other programs. (Optional - based on interests of volunteer) The specific skills are they looking for at this placement :

Engineer -Engineering Student -Metal Worker -Carpenter -Framer -Drywall Mason Equipment -Project Management -General Labour
