The role of this cooperative is to help create sustainable work for the entire community, by focusing on three main components: 1. Promoting tourism: Recently Lomas de Viento has begun providing restaurant services, tour guides, hiking trails and horseback riding for visitors, as well as promoting local artistic traditions. Residents are also converting their homes into guest lodges to accommodate the influx of tourists. Income is also being generated by the sale of locally-grown ornamental flowers and plants.

Conservation and reforestation: After recent difficulties with access to fresh water and serious deforestation, the residents of Lomas de Viento have realized that they land they live on is an incredible natural resource. Recent conservation efforts have revived their freshwater springs and fertile soil and have seen the return of the local wildlife. The community is working closely with other NGOs in order to preserve, control and develop a better, more organized system for the whole community to take advantage of the environment without endangering it.
