Wales has got so much to offer its visitors. The country, which is part of the UK, has some lovely coastlines and countryside to explore and a wealth of attractions to see.
It's ideal for a family holiday destination and there are plenty of self-catering properties here, too, so you can enjoy a holiday property rental here, whatever your taste or budget.
Cardiff, the capital of Wales, is a good place to begin. While you are in the city, try to visit Cardiff Castle and be sure to take a guided tour of the building, which will provide a fascinating insight into this amazing castle. Not surprisingly, it is a popular visitor attraction in Cardiff.
One great way of seeing the city's sights is by taking an open-top bus tour. You can hop-on and hop-off the double-decker bus, which gives you the opportunity to do even more sightseeing. While you're in the Welsh city, you could also do a tour of the Millennium Stadium, visit the National Museum Cardiff or even take a trip to the Doctor Who Up Close Exhibition.
During your stay in Wales, it's also worth checking out Cardiff Bay (the old Cardiff docklands), which is located just a mile from Cardiff city centre. It's a great visitor centre with shops, restaurants and bars and a whole lot more! You can see a show at the Wales Millennium Centre, take the kids to Techniquest (a hands-on science centre), visit the Norwegian Church Arts Centre (which is a former Norwegian Sailors Church) and the Red Dragon Centre.
If you're a sea or beach lover, you will be spoilt for choice by Wales' amazing 750-mile coastline. Whether you're looking for a busy seaside resort or a remote beach to get away from the hustle and bustle, you will find it in Wales.
Some beautiful coastal areas of Wales include Anglesey, Llandudno, Aberystwyth, Rhyl and Prestatyn, Cardigan Bay, Swansea and Tenby. Rather than take the car, you could choose to explore the attractive Welsh coastline - and indeed other areas of this country - on foot or by bike.
In fact, if you want an active holiday, Wales offers many sporting facilities. You can try your hand at a range of water sports, fishing, climbing, caving, horse riding and golf. The Snowdonia National Park, which covers an area of 838 square miles, is an ideal environment in which to go hiking and birdwatching. The park boasts a great variety of landscapes to enjoy, such as mountains, lakes, waterfalls, along with some lovely beaches, cliffs and coves. Within Snowdonia, there are also some great towns and villages to visit, as well as plenty of tourist attractions, historic buildings and even prehistoric sites to discover.
Wales also boasts many gorgeous parks and gardens which you can visit. The National Botanic Garden of Wales in Llanarthne, Carmarthenshire, is one fine example and is well worth a visit.
Wales is a great destination for everyone, whether you're in need of a peaceful and relaxing break or if you want a holiday brimming with activities. What's more, there is a great selection of self-catering accommodation here, so it's an ideal location for a family vacation.
