Where can I travel in Senegal?

Trying to choose the best adventure site while on holiday could at times be a daunting prospect. It's dreadfully easy to become overwhelmed with the sheer number of choices available. Senegal is no exception to this. This charming country is located on the west of Africa with Dakar as her capital city and the main language spoken being French. The nightlife in Senegal is just dazzling. Dakar is one of the best cities in the region to check out some live music. There are several nightclubs and music venues playing mbalakh (the local contemporary music). There are also many cinemas showing the latest French films. The Daniel Sorano National Theatre in the Boulevard de la Republique is a popular venue for theatre, concerts and other arts performances. Moreover, Dakar is host to traditional Senegalese wrestling matches during the weekends. Once you touch down at the Air Sénégal International, you can book yourself to some of the various exquisite hotels in Senegal which comprise of the Novotel Dakar hotel, the Sofitel Teranga Dakar hotel and the Le Meridien President Dakar hotel. Generally speaking, Senegal offers some of the finest cuisine anywhere in West Africa that has an unmistakable influence from French cookery. Some good examples comprise of the Chicken au yassa, the Tiebou dienne, the Maffé, the Avocat au Crevettes and the Dem à la St Louis. The basis of most Senegal dishes is chicken or fish, but peanuts infuse a distinctive taste to local dishes. This food is served in many restaurants in Dakar, while provincial rest houses serve less sophisticated but delicious delicacies. Don’t forget that Senegal is predominantly a Muslim country thus there is a conspicuous absence of pork from most of her menus. Nevertheless, there are bars in some hotels and clubs and therefore beer is in plenty. Some of the beverages include the Toufam, Mint tea, Palm wine, and the Home-roasted coffee with pimento. What else would you bargain for? As a visitor to Senegal, you should pay a visit to some of the many colourful markets it is endowed with. They are abundant with a range of bargains from food to handmade crafts and electronics. Most markets and centres sell wooden carvings, traditional fabric, embroidery, pottery, necklaces of clay beads and costume jewellery of wood or various seeds. You can also watch craftspeople at work and buy their wares. Afterwards, you can amaze yourself as you tour some of the best attractions at hand in Senegal like the Ïle de Gorée, the Fadiout Cemetery, the Old Fort, the Popenguine Beach, The Pink Lake, the La Questura!, the Musée des femmes, the Poste, the Rose Lake, the Stade Leopold and the Sendar Senghor attractions. You can still see and appreciate the wildlife in two of the country’s national parks one is Djoudj National Park in the north, considered one of the best bird watching sites in the world while the other is Niokolo-Koba National Park in the southeast part of the country, considered to be the best game park in West Africa. The best time to visit this country that comes in such a perfect package would definitely be in the months of November and February. During this time, the climate is dry and cool, and the perfect season for bird watching and wildlife spotting. It’s now up to you to decide when you will visit this gem in Africa.
