Anyone looking to go camping in South West France, but who hasn't decided which part to head to would do well to consider the area around Royan. Campsites in this area are of an extremely high standard, and near to some of the most outstanding scenery in the whole of France, from the expansive golden beaches and tranquil pine forests to the beauty and charm of La Rochelle.
If you're looking for Royan campsites, there are some excellent choices available. These four are some of the best campsites in South West France, let alone Royan!
Bonne Anse Plage
Bonne Anse Plage is a superb choice for families looking for a campsite in South West France with plenty to do. As well as the two swimming pools (one exclusively for children) and colourful twisting slides, the Royan campsite also boasts its own 18 hole mini golf course which is sure to keep you coming back time and time again to improve upon your score!
The site itself is picturesque, with plenty of pine trees around to offer shade from the warm French sunshine. On the other hand, if you prefer to bask in the glorious sunshine, the beach is just 600 metres away. Cyclists will also find the number of cycle paths in the nearby forest a delight to explore.
Camping Interlude
Located on the Ile de Ré, this is an island campsite near Royan that's perfectly suited to families with young children. There are plenty of beaches, and gentle waters which are ideal swimming and play, while the sands make the perfect spot for picnics and beach games. Then of course, there's plenty on site including a sauna, jacuzzi, gym and an indoor/outdoor pool. There's nothing better than spending a day exploring the island's interesting cycle paths, before enjoying a hearty meal at the campsite's restaurant.
Camping le Puits de l'Auture
This spacious site is amongst my favourite campsites in South West France. The biggest draw is its location: very close to the long stretch of white sands and calm blue waters. The Royan campsite itself is pretty memorable too, with colourful flowerbeds, well spaced trees, swimming pools and kids' playground. There's a snack bar and take-away on site, and a good selection of restaurants and bars within easy walking distance of the site for the kind of lazy, warm evenings that Royan camping trips are all about.
Séquoia Parc
If there were a prize for the most visually appealing campsite in Royan, Séquoia Parc would definitely win it. Laid out in the spacious, sunny grounds of Chateau de la Josephtrie, the fields of sunflowers and vineyards make for an outstanding backdrop to your holiday. It has a number of swimming pools onsite, as well as a jacuzzi and bar, and the quiet country roads nearby are perfect for cyclists on your Royan camping trip.
The watchword for holidays spent camping in South West France is 'relaxation'. All of these Royan camping hotspots make for a great base to recharge your batteries, and their spaciousness and cheerful family atmosphere makes them the perfect place to take the family - especially those with young children. If you're camping in South West France, you can't go wrong with any of these!
