Fuel Type and Cost
If you’re unsure about the fuel type, please check the fuel filter door of your car. Contact the rental agency or the staff at the petrol station. Fuel is generally around 20 cents cheaper per liter, for unleaded, compared to the UK.
Opening Hours and Payment for Petrol Stations
Please note petrol stations in Cyprus are not open Tuesday and Saturday afternoons. However, they are open from 07:00 to 18:00 every other day.
Also, petrol stations are closed on all Public Holidays and Sundays. The bulk of these petrol pumps have the ability to accept credit cards and cash. Please note, these facilities do not give change.
It's not a good idea to be pouring 50 euros of fuel into the car if you're taking the hire car back the next day! i.e. the bulk of hire cars are taken back with an empty tank, so you wont get reimbursed.
When the petrol station is open, garage assistants are on hand to fill up and receive payment.
Safety on the Roads - Speed Limits and Rules for Children
Remember, if you opt for cheap car hire in Cyprus, you drive on the LEFT hand side of the road. The same as in the UK. Distances and road speed limits are given in kilometers and kilometers per hour (km/h). The maximum speed limit on the motorways is 100km/h (62mph) and the lower speed limit is 65km/h (40mph).
In built up areas, the speed limit is generally 50km/h (31mph).
Children under the age of five must not, under any circumstances sit in the front passenger seat. Children from five to ten years old may occupy the front passenger seat, only if an appropriate child’s seat belt has been fitted.
The use of seat belts is mandatory.
