Discover all Jerez has to Offer

Jerez in Spain is a city that is steeped in ancient culture and history. Everything that has passed over Jerez has left its mark on the city. So you have beautiful old buildings of various styles, wine cellars stocking the finest wine and amazing streets where you simply get lost in the glory and grandeur. This is Jerez, where you will find some of the oldest relics of ancient civilizations that inhabited continental Europe.

To start off with you can go to the Archeological museum of Jerez. Amongst the many displays of interest, there is a Greek helmet that dates back to the 7th century B.C. The museum is situated on the beautiful plaza Mercado which is lined with palm trees. From there you can go to the nearby Iglesia de San Mateo which is a beautiful gothic church. It is one of the oldest of its kind in Jerez and has recently been restored.

If you like hunting for bargains and old treasures the local Sunday flea market or the mercadillo is also held in this area. You can pick up antique furniture, old photographs and a lot of other things. Then you can walk down the calle Liebre where you will go past the Iglesia de San Juan de Los Caballeros and reach the Centro Andaluaz de Flamenco. It is located within the beautiful Palacio Permartin. It is the main hub of Flamenco in the area and holds great Flamenco concerts. Apart from that, you can also look through the great catalogue of Flamenco lyrics, sheet music and writings on the subject.

There are certainly far worse ideas than hiring a car in Jerez. This beautiful part of Spain can be taken in by road with a car hire Jerez Service. Seville is just a short drive away. There are lots of excellent little villages and towns off the beaten track.

After this, you can look forward to some downtime at the Plaza Plateros that is located down the calle Francos. This is a beautifully decorated plaza that is lined with trees and out door cafes. Then you can walk down to the nearby Iglesia de San Dionisio. If you look closely at the bell tower you will be able to tell that this structure was once a mosque.

From here you can walk up the calle Salvador and to plaza Belen. Here you will see the Ciudad de Flamenco, which is a kind of interactive museum that is dedicated to the art of Flamenco that Jerez is famous for.

Jerez is the kind of place where you can simply pick out a street and soak in the great sights and sounds of the local traditions and heritage. You should certainly never be short of things to see and do in Jerez.
