Over the past 10 years, there has been a very big influx of Canadian's and American's moving to Ojochal Costa Rica. Most of these people have come down wanting to semi-retire. You know, live the dream of retiring where it is sunny and warm all year round. The challenge that has happened here in Ojochal is that there are not a lot of different ways to make some extra money.
What has happened is that most people that have a place in Ojochal Costa Rica built it with the plan of renting part of it out to people coming here. Now that is a great way to earn some extra cash but as more and more people come down here with that idea, the more that there is a supply of rentals. And as the number of rentals increases, the demand gets smaller, making this plan less and less profitable.
So the only other way that a foreigner and come here and make money is if they start some sort of a business. Most of the people that have moved to Ojochal from another part of the world and make a living here, have developed some sort of a business to make their money from.
The businesses that are here in Ojochal are typically businesses that cater to the Canadian's and American's that are moving here. Businesses like house maintenance, rental pools, furniture stores, internet service providers, grocery stores, and restaurants. All of these businesses are great and they are something that every town needs to have.
So it is very important for the people that are moving to Ojochal Costa Rica that are wanting to make some money while living here to have some sort of a business idea. When they do not have a good business idea, they tend to have to go back home to make their money. Now having to leave this beautiful place to make some money is not the dream retirement that people wanted.
