Elba is the largest island in Tuscany is an island without frontier and the one of the major characteristics of the island is the variety of places. There are areas which are dried by the sun and the wind, other areas are green with scenery, sandy and pebble stone beaches, cliffs and rocky coastlines. There are numerous beaches in the island of Elba and each of them is unique. The different types of beaches include the long beaches of golden sand or tiny stones, equally beautiful beaches of black sand, white pebbles or cliff bases of smooth granite rocks. The beaches of the island are similar to those of Caribbean with its spectacular panorama and crystal clear water. The coastal line of Elba is 147 kilometers which is divided in to four geographical categories. Most of the beaches in the island are free but on the main beaches there are changing rooms, sun lounges and beach umbrellas for rent. The holidays in the island of Elba are worth as there is natural landscape, history and traditions.
There are more than seventy beaches in the island of Elba and all of them are different from each other. One of the most famous tourist centers in Elba is Marina di Campo with its fine sand beaches, fertile flat land which arrives at the gulf shores, the mountains, good hotels and the facilities which provide all kinds of aquatic sports. You can reach some of the most beautiful beaches on Elba from Marina di Campo which is also a perfect place for nightlife. The Elba aquarium and the museum for the study of fauna are at Segagnana inside the hotel Marina 2000. The Elba aquarium is second in size to the aquarium in Genoa with more than 2000 specimens of fish and invertebrates of more than 160 species found in the Tyrrhenian Sea. The beach is divided in to public and equipped beach with numerous activities such as diving, sailing, windsurfing, boating and kayaking.
Cavoli beach is also famous for its transparent water, beautiful and fine white sand and the mild climate. Cavoli is most visited during summer and is a meeting point for all youngsters. The 150 meters long Seccheto beach with its fine sand is easily accessible and the beach is surrounded by large flat cliffs, the ground is sandy and water is crystal clear. There are natural rocks formations in Seccheto beach with shallow natural pools ideal for children to play are a few meters away from the sea. Fetovaia is a tourist resort which has a reputation of having sandy beach and its evergreen peninsula disappearing in the water. Fonza is a beach which is quiet during tourist season because of the difficult road and this beach is attracted by the divers for the rich sea life. Galenzana is also a less frequented beach as it is accessible by foot and the beach is beautiful with its pine woods and high macchia vegetation.
The island of Elba always has a relaxed atmosphere. In the island there are family friendly hotels for staying and the island is famous in history as the Napoleon Bonaparte was exiled to this island by the allied governments.
